Two More Murders

By Sasha L. Lightbourne

A brazen daylight shooting left a young woman dead yesterday, less than 24 hours after police investigators scrambled to the scene of the country's 42nd homicide.

Police said the incident happened around 4:15 pm Wednesday on Cordeaux Avenue and St. Vincent Street off East Street.

"Preliminary information is that a 23-year-old female was standing outside her residence when she was approached by three males, one of whom was allegedly armed with a handgun," she said.

"The culprit fired shots in the area of the female, who was shot in her chest and right arm. The female was taken to hospital by a private vehicle, but died a short time later."

The latest incident marks the country’s 43rd homicide.

Just a few hours earlier, police were left investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 31-year-old Garaltoe Johnson of Stack Avenue, Nassau Village.

According to police a male, allegedly armed with a handgun, approached Johnson and another male while they were sitting outside a home on Stack Avenue around 10:52pm Tuesday.

The man reportedly opened fire on the men, shooting Johnson multiple times about the body.

Police said the culprit was wearing a red hooded jacket, short blue jeans and a pair of black Nike tennis.

Johnson was taken to hospital, but died early yesterday morning.

Police are actively investigating both matters and are appealing to anyone who may have heard or seen anything regarding either incident to call them 911/919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or the nearest police station.
